Breaking Ground was a collaborative project by Roz Cran and Judith Alder during 2007 - 2009. In the first part of the project the two artists set aside time to review their practices and to see what might happen if they worked together as a new collaboration. They interviewed each other and wrote articles about each other's work. The articles were published on a-n projects unedited.

The project involved five short residencies at various venues in the South East, each residency culminating in an Open Day or presentation and discussion event.

The project was featured in the November 2007 issue of a-n Magazine.

Part 1 of Breaking Ground was supported by the Networking Artists’ Networks initiative (NAN) through a-n The Artist Information Company. Part 2 was supported by a Grant for the Arts from Arts Council England. The Breaking Ground Printmaking Residency was hosted by the University of Brighton
