BREAKING GROUND

Breaking Ground is a collaborative project by Roz Cran and Judith Alder. In the first Part of the project the two artists set aside time together to review their respective practices and to see what might happen if they worked together as a new collaboration. They interviewed each other and wrote articles about each other's work. The articles were published on a-n projects unedited.

Judith and Roz then organised a time as Artists in Residence on a Brighton allotment. The allotment provided a productive space for experimentation and development of both individual and collaborative ideas. The residency culminated in an Open Day for visitors to come and see what the artists had beeen doing. In February 2008 The University of Brighton supported Judith & Roz by hosting a Printmaking Residency during which they were able to develop their ideas through print. An Arts Council Grant For The Arts then enabled Roz & Judith to develop the project into another phase during three more short experimental residencies at project spaces along the south coast. The project was featured in the November 2007 issue of a-n Magazine. Follow the Breaking Ground blog at
