THE PROJECT: "A SENSE OF DIRECTION" began in May 2005 as a proposal to develop a Sensory Trail for blind and visually impaired people as part of the Art Plus Awards Scheme.* The development period included research and consultation with visually impaired people in collaboration with Eastbourne Blind Society and the RNIB.

The artist organised a seafront walk and a tactile workshop with groups of blind and visually impaired people in Eastbourne, as well as carrying out research visits and development activities.

The red windmill, a device used as a sensory marker on the seafront walk, became an icon used throughout the project.
